Dr. John Lowry is a recognized authority on negotiation through his experience as a lawyer, business consultant, negotiation coach, and university administrator. His results-focused, systematic approach to negotiation has been successfully implemented by thousands of professionals across the United States. Dr. Lowry teaches negotiation and settlement processes at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Straus Institute the #1 dispute resolution program in the country for 11 consecutive years.
Dr. Lowry serves as president of The Lowry Group, LLC (“TLG”). At TLG, he provides dispute resolution training and facilitation for governmental entities, major insurance companies, health care organizations, and other businesses. Prior to his training and consulting work, Dr. Lowry practiced law with Strasburger & Price, LLP in Dallas, TX, where he defended physicians, hospitals, and hospital systems in medical malpractice and commercial litigation.
Dr. Lowry is also the vice president for development & external affairs at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, where he manages advancement, community relations, and governmental and regulatory affairs. In 2014, he was selected to participate in Leadership Tennessee. He is also a founding board member of the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce and is a three-time Williamson County Impact Award winner presented by the Nashville Business Journal.
Dr. Lowry earned his bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Pepperdine University. He received his juris doctorate degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. He also completed graduate work in public policy at California State University, Sacramento while serving as a Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellow in the California Legislature.
